3 Bands 1 Family Bonfire

Posted on Nov 28, 2021

11-28-2021

On Saturday November 27, the Waukesha West Cadets invited The Marching Blackshirts of Waukesha South High School and The Northstars of Waukesha North High School to a bonfire on the south side of Waukesha West High School. The gathering was called 3 Bands 1 Family. It allowed band members of all three schools along with parents, families and friends an opportunity to gather and express support to the Blackshirts of Waukesha South and the Waukesha community after the November 21, 2021 Waukesha Holiday Parade tragedy.

From 3pm to 5pm Saturday November 27, about 200 students and adults from all three Waukesha High Schools along with representatives of Carroll University Marching Band gathered.

Hot chocolate, cookies and snacks were available at the bonfire. Support dogs were there to comfort anyone that needed a good snuggle or hug. Another way to stay warm was to stay near the bonfire. Temperatures were in the 30s with a gusty wind and some flurries.

Many of the students in the three Waukesha high schools attended middle school and elementary school with students in other two high schools. It was a time to reconnect, give hugs, shed a tear or many, and acknowledge that the band community in Waukesha is strong and passionate with support and respect for all three marching bands.

It was a short period of time on Thanksgiving weekend that hopefully provided some measure of comfort as our community continues to mourn and heal.

The Cadets of Waukesha West Prepare for 2021 WSMA State Marching Band State Championships

Posted on Oct 11, 2021

October 11 2021

The Cadets of Waukesha West are coming off a first place finish Saturday, October 9 at the Milton High School and a second place finish Sunday, October 10 at Mukwonago High School. The season is rapidly coming to a close but this last week is full of activities.

On Tuesday, October 12, Color Guard and all percussion rehearse. from 5:45pm to 9:00pm with percussion released an hour earlier, at 8:00pm. Tuesday evening is also a band fundraiser at Culvers restaurant on Sunset Drive in Waukesha. From 5:00pm to 8:00pm a portion of money spent goes to Waukesha West Bands. Culvers is a frequent sponsor and great friend to the West Community. So please consider eating there Tuesday evening. As Mrs. Granzow said: “Having TREBLE thinking of what to make for dinner during such a busy band week?” The flavor of the Day is Devil’s Food Cake. That may be more convincing than the bad joke 🙂 .

Wednesday, October 13 is the last Wednesday night band rehearsal. Parents and friends, please attend at 8:40pm to watch the final Wednesday night run through. Let’s pack the stands!!!!

Friday, October 15 is the last home football game for 2021. The Cadets will perform at halftime and during the game. Please come out and cheer the football team and marching band!

Finally, Saturday October 16 is the 2021 WSMA State Marching Band Competition at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. Waukesha West performs at 1:15pm! If you plan on attending purchase tickets in advance and parking tickets in advance to save a little money and time. Also, all indoor facilities at UW-Whitewater require masks.

As you can see, it is a huge week for the Cadets and we wish them the best as they wind down the 2021 marching band season.
